NADIR AFONSO: The Geometry of the Absolute
18ª Temporary Exhibition
The Clérigos Museum presents the exhibition 𝗡𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗿 𝗔𝗳𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗼: 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝗯𝘀𝗼𝗹𝘂𝘁𝗲, a tribute to one of the greatest figures in 20th-century Portuguese art.
With more than 75 years of artistic career, Nadir Afonso created a body of work defined by precision, passion, and a constant pursuit of geometric perfection. Influenced by architecture and the modernist movements, his art evolved through various creative phases — from surrealism to geometric realism — always guided by the belief that “the essence of art lies in mathematical laws.”
The exhibition brings together thirty works, including seven pieces never before shown in Porto and twenty-three previously unseen gouaches, revealing different stages of his artistic journey.
An invitation to immerse yourself in the geometric and poetic universe of Nadir Afonso.
On display at the Clérigos Museum until 25 January 2026.
