The Chapel Choir of Downing College Concert

July 19, 12 PM, Clérigos Church

The Chapel Choir of Downing College, Cambridge is a mixed-voice choir made up primarily of students from the College. Despite the relatively light weekly service load (Sunday Choral Evensong and the twice-termly Choral Compline) Downing has a reputation for producing highly successful organists and choral directors; previous organ scholars include Martin Baker (formerly Master of the Music at Westminster Cathedral), Carl Jackson (Director of Music at the Chapel Royal, Hampton Court), and David Pipe (Organist of Huddersfield Town Hall).

In addition to chapel duties the Choir regularly tours abroad (recent destinations have included Italy, the USA, Paris, Scandinavia, and Hungary) in addition to singing services at UK cathedrals (recent visits have included Norwich, Peterborough, and Ely). The Choir is currently enjoying an extended tour of Portugal.

Outside of singing the Choir has a thriving social life, and is the only choir in Cambridge (and possibly the world) to have adopted its very own flamingo (from a bird sanctuary in Surrey).
