Clérigos Brotherhood has been award the Commemorative Medal of the Orden del Camino de Santiago

The Clérigos Brotherhood has been award the Commemorative Medal of the Orden del Camino de Santiago, in recognition of its contribution to promoting the values associated with the Camino de Santiago.

Father Manuel Fernando was invested as a Capellán of the Orden del Camino de Santiago, further highlighting Clérigos’ connection with the tradition of welcoming pilgrims.

The distinctions were awarded as part of the XXXIX Extraordinary Chapter of the Orden del camino de Santiago, which took place in Porto for the first time, on 19 and 20 September.

The official opening of the Chapter took place on 19 September at the Benefactors’ Gallery of the Private Church of the Misericórdia do Porto, locally organised by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia do Porto. The Clérigos Brotherhood was represented by its President, Father Manuel Fernando.

On 20 September, Clérigos Tower hosted one of the events in the Chapter programme, welcoming participants from the Orden del Camino de Santiago.

Throughout the year, Clérigos Tower and Church welcome thousands of visitors exploring Porto, many of them pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela. This makes Clérigos a place of encounter, passage and discovery, forming part of the experience of those travelling along the Caminos de Santiago.

The Clérigos Brotherhood is grateful for this distinction and reaffirms its commitment to promoting heritage, culture and the values of hospitality and sharing associated with the Camino de Santiago.
